CAIRO, May 9 (KUNA) — Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi said on Monday a fair and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue would ensure regional stability and reduce tensions.
During a meeting with visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Al-Sisi reaffirmed his country’s relentless support to the Palestinian issue and continuously positive interaction with initiatives aiming at backing the Palestinians’ legitimate rights, Presidential Spokesman Alaa Yusuf said in a statement following the meeting.
The Egyptian leader also underlined the necessity of maintaining Arab constants regarding the Palestinian people, saying that Egypt sets top priority to the Palestinian cause.
He also vowed that Egypt would continue its fervent efforts to help the Palestinian have their own state with Eastern Jerusalem as its capital.
On his part, the Palestinian leader stressed the significance of holding an international conference as soon as possible and of providing an international multiparty mechanism in order to put an end to occupation and set up a Palestinian state as per a definite timetable.
He spoke highly of Egyptian efforts to reach a settlement to the Palestinian cause, and its regional and international moves to provide protection for the Palestinian people.
Abbas added that he had discussed with the Egyptian leader planned Arab and international moves purposed to bring both Palestinian and Israeli sides back to the negotiating table. (end)
