Duterte sworn in as the Philippines' 16th president

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (KUNA) — Rodrigo Duterte was sworn in as the Philippines’ 16th president on Thursday, succeeding Benigno oynoy Aquino III.
The new president, unlike his predecessors, held a humble oath-taking ceremony at the presidential palace — attended by 600 persons including diplomats.
In his pledging address, the new president vowed to abide by State laws in combating drugs and crimes. He also urged citizens to “restore missing values” and pledged to respect his country’s treaties with international parties and powers. (end) aib.rk
