Brazil's lower house halt president impeachment plans

WASHINGTON, May 9 (KUNA) — Brazil’s lower house on Monday annulled their vote that could have led to the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff.
The decision, announced by acting Chamber of Deputies speaker Waldir Maranhao, halts the April 17 vote which had passed the proceedings on to the Senate, according to Brazilian media reports.
The Senate, in turn, had been scheduled to make their own vote on whether to put Rousseff on an impeachment trial for manipulating state budgets.
Maranhao attributed the decision to irregularities whereby, he said, it was wrong for members to announce their position before voting, and for party leaders to influence members. (end) sd
