AU CALLS FOR SPEEDY RESOLVE OF RIFT AMONG GULF STATES

African Union Commission Chairperson Mahamat Moussa Faki has expressed his growing concern over the political dispute among members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

In a statement, the Chairperson underscored that if the rift is not addressed speedily, it could have adverse political, security and humanitarian implications for the Gulf states, the African continent and for international peace and stability.

He called for the urgent resolution of the dispute through dialogue and for a mediated and peaceful solution, including through the efforts of the Government of Kuwait.

The GCC region plunges into crisis on June 5, when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt and some other countries severed diplomatic ties and closed off sea, air and land links to Doha, accusing it of funding terrorism, hosting terrorists and interfering with their internal affairs.
