CAIRO, May 4 (KUNA) — Secretary-General of the Arab League Nabil Al-Araby on Wednesday called on the international community to necessarily provide international protection for the Syrian people against mounting military operations in their country.
In a keynote speech at an extraordinary meeting of the Arab League’s permanent delegates on the serious situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo, Al-Araby called on the UN Security Council and the International Syria Support Group to press for a ceasefire and push forward Geneva peace negotiations.
He said the international community is required to set top priority to efforts to maintain truce in Syria and to ensure humanitarian aid access to violence-hit areas.
Al-Araby reiterated the Arab League’s condemnation of military hostilities committed by Syrian regime’s forces and militants in Aleppo, targeting hospitals, schools and civilians there.
He called for brining those who committed such attacks as crimes against humanity to accountability, while reaffirming Arab support for a political solution to the Syrian crisis in order to spare the Syrian people more killing and devastation. (end)
