Arab League Chief Meets UN High Commissioner for Refugees

Cairo, – Arab League Secretary-General Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit met today with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi.

Grandi said in remarks that the meeting discussed conditions of the world’s 65 million refugees, of whom 40 percent are in the Arab World. He pointed that the meeting also dealt with the conflicts that cause refuge in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, in addition to ways of pursuing peace in these conflicts.

He expressed the hope for a stronger cooperation between the Arab League and UNHCR, especially with Syria, Yemen and Iraq facing serious refugees crisis.
