Arab Group calls for permanent representation at UNSC

NEW York, May 2 (KUNA) — The Arab Group called on Monday for a permanent representation, with full powers, in terms of permanent and non-permanent seats in case of an expansion of the UN Security Council.
This came during a speech delivered, on behalf of the Arab Group, by Kuwaiti Permanent Delegate to the UN Ambassador Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council Reform.
Al-Otaibi stressed the need for suitable representation of the Arab countries at the Security Council, indicating that it makes up 12 percent out of the UN membership.
He said that several Arab issues discussed by the Security Council reflect the necessary representation of the Group at the council so as to guarantee showing Arab views during discussions. (end)
