ADMINISTRATIVE DEVELOPMENT MINISTRY ORGANIZES ROUNDTABLE ON CHILDREN WITH AUTISM

Doha, – The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs’ Family Affairs Department organized today a roundtable on how to deal with children with autism.

A number of parents and those responsible for private nurseries dealing directly with children with this autism spectrum as well as doctors from Hamad Medical Corporation participated in the roundtable, which was held in cooperation with Qatar Autism Families Association and Qatar Rehabilitation Institute.

Held as part of a series of seminars on the autism spectrum by the Department, the roundtable aimed at raising awareness of this spectrum and detecting it at an early age along with how to deal with infected children and ways to integrate them with their non-affected peers.

The attendees highlighted the need for a partnership between the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Public Health for the rehabilitation of those responsible for nurseries and families of children with autism to deal with such cases and to provide training and development courses for those handling children (in nurseries) before the age of 4 years.

They also called for the establishment of a database of infected children to easily deliver and provide them with the necessary services according to their situation and geographical location. They also urged families of children with suspected cases of autism to submit reports on the situation and action to be taken by the nurseries to deal with the behaviors of autistic children and to develop their motor, social and mental skills.

The series of seminars on the autism spectrum by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs’ Family Affairs Department were launched last March and will come to a close next December. (QNA)
