AABB renews recognition of Kuwait's Central Blood Bank

KUWAIT, May 8 (KUNA) — The US American Association of Blood Bank (AABB) has renewed its recognition of Kuwait’s Central Blood Bank (KCBB) completing 27 years of such recognition, the Director of blood transfer services in the health ministry, Reem Al-Radhwan said Sunday.
Al-Radhwan told KUNA that an international inspection team by the organization visited the Kuwaiti central blood bank for a period of three days for evaluation of quality and services and to renew its recognition, in addition to inspecting blood disease labs in the bank.
The recognition by the organization also approved blood types gene samples by the Kuwaiti bank, making Kuwait the third country to obtain this recognition in terms of labs transfers based on US standards, Al-Radhwan added.
Since 1957, AABB has been developing standards for blood banks and transfusion services.
From the 1980s to the present, standards for Cellular Therapies, Perioperative Services, Relationship Testing, Immunohematology Reference Laboratories, Molecular Testing and Patient Blood Management have been added to the standards library.
The corresponding accreditation programs strive to improve the quality and safety of the activities covered by the standards. (end) shd.mb
