741 Iraqi people killed in April – UN

BAGHDAD, May 1 (KUNA) — The UN said Sunday 741 Iraqis were killed during the month of April due to “terrorism, violence and armed confrontations.” UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said in a statement 410 Iraqis of those killed were civilians, while 1,374 others were injured including 973 civilians.
Although the number of fatalities of April is high, it is less than previous month, which stood at 1,119 people, it added.
UN Special Envoy for Iraq Jan Kubis expressed grave concern over the spate of violence in Iraq.
He said it hurt to see continuous bloodshed specially among civilians “who are paying high price because of explosions and armed confrontations.” Kubis said terrorists have attacked restaurants, worshipping places, crowds and markets. (end) ahh.bs
