USA: We stand with our NATO ally Turkey

US Department of State expressed that Turkey has right to self-defense and the USA is in solidarity with Turkey, as their NATO ally at daily press briefing on Tuesday.

Deputy spokesperson Mark Toner replied the questions concerned with the Russian warplane, which was shot downed by Turkey as part of international engagement rules.

Toner told that they were still in the process of getting details of what happened and they were in conversations with both Russia and Turkey. Stressing the fact that it’s important for Russia and Turkey to de-escalate the situation, Toner pointed of the explanations of Obama and the Secretary General of NATO.


Stating that Turkey has a right to defend its territory, including its airspace, Toner told that Russia’s airstrikes, which operating on Turkey’s border going after moderate Syrian opposition and carrying out strikes or taking the fight to ISIL, create a very complex and confusing state of affairs. Toner, who said that these kind of incidents were not occurred at first time, “If there was a clear violation of Turkey’s airspace, then Russia needs to, obviously, not do that in the future,” added Toner.

Toner also added that Turkmens were actually have every right to defend themselves in case being attacked by these Russian strikes.
