US will continue cooperation with Azerbaijani parliament, says ambassador

Baku: The U.S. will continue cooperation with the Parliament of Azerbaijan, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta told reporters on Nov.4.

“As I stated before the election, we will continue cooperating with the Azerbaijani parliament and MPs,” said the ambassador.

The U.S. acts in the same way in respect to all countries, Cekuta said, noting that there is nothing unusual.

According to the State Department’s statement, the ruling party took a lead in the election, but we are still waiting for final results, the ambassador said.

“We expressed our regret over the fact that OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) did not allowed to observe the election, and it was supported by all OSCE member states,” Cekuta noted.

In addition, the statement says that the U.S. is committed to working with the government and people of Azerbaijan in their effort to ensure a strong, stable, democratic, and prosperous future, the ambassador stressed.

He went on to add that the OSCE is the most prestigious and important organization founded after the Second World War with the aim of ensuring peace and stability in Europe. In this respect, its powers are undeniable.
