US ambassador: OSCE cannot dictate independent states

Baku: Any organization, including the OSCE cannot dictate sovereign and independent states, U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta told reporters on Nov.4.

Cekuta made the remarks commenting on OSCE’s failure to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh that has been lasting for over twenty years.

He said that the OSCE has set out basic principles of peace and prosperity for post-war countries.

“Among them there are principles of territorial integrity, non-use of force or threat of force, self-determination. It also reflects the issues of economy, human rights and security,” the ambassador noted.

Under the OSCE, the Minsk Group co-chairs are trying to bring the two countries together to achieve progress in resolving the conflict peacefully, Cekuta said.

“This structure provides a framework for resolving the conflict. Without this structure, we can return to the situation that was in the beginning of the century. In this regard, once again I mention the importance of this organization”, the ambassador added.
