Turkish National Football Team visits Soma

MANISA (CIHAN)- The Turkish national football team went to Manisa’s Soma district on Monday to extend their condolences to the families of miners who got killed during Turkey’s worst mining disaster ever on Tuesday.

The national team squad, head by coach Fatih Terim, attended to a religious ceremony held at Soma’s Ulu Mosque. The team players later spoke to some of the survivors of the disaster, which claimed lives of 301 people.

The reasons behind the country’s worst mining disaster are still not clear, but all of the 301 miners apparently lost their lives due to carbon monoxide poisoning. It was probably not possible to determine any rise in the level of carbon monoxide in the mine, if, as maintained by mine workers, the oxygen sensors were not operating.
