Turkey summons Russian envoy over attacks on Turkish missions, companies

In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry said Turkey is concerned to see that its diplomatic missions and Turkish companies in Russia are being exposed to physical attacks “under the auspices of protests.”

Stating that its all diplomatic missions in Russia contacted with relevant Russian authorities to request swift additional security measures after the protests began, the statement stressed that it is the responsibility of the host countries to ensure safety of foreign missions.

The statement added that Russian Ambassador to Ankara was also summoned to the Foreign Ministry to deliver Turkey’s unease about the attacks, which it termed are unacceptable.

Protesters have hurled eggs and stones at the Turkish embassy in Moscow on Wednesday, a day after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane Tuesday near the Syrian border.

Windows at the embassy’s compound were shattered and eggs pelted against the walls on Wednesday after a protest there went sour. Police cleared the area and and made some arrests shortly after the protest began.
