Turkey increases its equity in Shahdeniz-2 project to 19%, in TANAP to 30%

Istanbul: Today, a signing ceremony on increase of equities in Shahdeniz 2 and TANAP pipelines has been held in Istanbul.

APA’s Turkey correspondent reports that the ceremony has been attended by Azerbaijani Energy Minister Natig Aliyev, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz.

At the ceremony, four agreements have been signed. First of these documents is related to purchase of TPAO – Total part, which was signed by TPAO Director-General Besim Shishman and Total-Azerbaijan Director General Christian Guidicelli. The second one is about signing of sale and purchase of TANAP parts between Turkish BOTAS and SOCAR. The document was signed by BOTAS Director-General Mehmet Konuk and SOCAR president and head of TANAP Board of Directors Rovnag Abdullayev.

The third document is related to BOTAS and TANAP gas transportation and was signed by BOTAS Director General Mehmet Konuk and SOCAR president and head of TANAP Board of Directors Rovnag Abdullayev. The fourth document is an intergovernmental agreement protocol between Turkey and Azerbaijan on TANAP. This document was signed by the Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Natig Aliyev and Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz.

After signing the documents, the SOCAR’s equity in TANAP is expected to reduce to 58% from 68%.

SOCAR President R. Abdullayev noted that today is a new stage of realization of Heydar Aliyev’s word “One nation, two states”.

Delivering Azerbaijani President’s greetings to the attendees, N. Aliyev stressed that the projects which have been signed today are important projects in not only between Azerbaijan and Turkey, but within the international relations.

The minister said that TPAO’s equity in the Caspian Sea rises to 19% from 9% wit these agreements.

N. Aliyev noted that 160,000 pipes will be used and many jobs will be launched in realization of TANAP.

Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said in his speech that $45 bln, which was considered for TANAP project up to early 2019, should be spent: “Within this project, $100 bln-contract has been signed with 9 EU countries. With today’s agreements, we share all projects in Caspian”.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that protection of bilateral interests and cooperation within it are very important in the modern world: “We are pleasant to be second in the Caspian Sea after BP. The situation within the Caspian Sea, Eastern Mediterranean Sea and Northern Iraq energy sources will strengthen Turkey’s position”.

The PM also noted that the TANAP will play an important role not only between Azerbaijan and Turkey, but in cooperation between turkey and European countries.

According to contracts signed today, Turkey’s equity in Shahdeniz 2 rose to 19% from 9%, in TANAP to 30% from 20%.
