Train derails in India: Eight dead, several passengers injured

YENI DELHI (CIHAN)- In yet another train mishap, at least eight passengers were feared dead and many injured when four coaches of the Diva-Sawantwadi passenger train derailed on the Konkan Railway route in Maharashtra today morning.

The engine and four bogies of the train derailed at around 9.30am just outside a tunnel near Nidi village in Raigad district.

The injured were rushed to a local hospital while others are still being rescued from the coaches that have derailed.

According to reports, the locals are assisting authorities in the rescue operation, with many providing transport, water and medical first-aid.

Following the accident, the services on Konkan Railway route have been suspended.
