Consumers’ economic expectations decline in MayThe general economic expectation index fell from 107 in April to 102.7 in May, a 41 percent decrease in just one month, according to figures released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) on Tuesday.

The Consumer Confidence Index, which is calculated by the results of a survey conducted by TurkStat and the Central Bank of Turkey, also saw a 31 percent drop, falling from 78.5 in April to 76 in May.

Consumer confidence is measured on a scale from one to 200. Scores over 100 are considered optimistic while those below 100 are considered pessimistic, which indicates that Turkey’s current level of confidence among consumers is considered slightly negative.

The household financial expectation index, which measures how people view their personal financial outlook in the next 12 months, also showed a slight decline this month.However, the unemployment expectation index dropped 44 percent from April to May, a positive indication suggesting that more citizens expect employment to increase over the next yearThe probability of saving index, which measures the likelihood of money being put aside over the next 12 months, did not change this month.
