Two films win top prizes at Ankara’s Accessible Film Festival“Gzumun Nuru” (Eye Am) and “Sen AydInlatIrsIn Geceyi” (Thou Gild’st the Even) won the top prizes at the Engelsiz Filmler Festivali (Accessible Film Festival) in Ankara, which wrapped up its second edition on Sunday night with a ceremony at the Ankara Opera House.“Eye Am,” a tragic-comic film co-directed by HakkI KurtuluI and Melik SaraoIlu, was named best film by the festival’s Competition Without Barriers jury, while “Thou Gild’st the Even” won a total of three nods, including best director, best screenplay and the festival’s audience award.

“Eye Am” is based on the personal experiences of SaraoIlu, whose retinal disease almost made him blind and caused him to be bedridden with both his eyes closed for 40 days. “Thou Gild’st the Even,” a black and white film directed by Onur unlu, recounts the story of a group of ordinary people in a small town who have superpowers.

The five-day festival, particularly aimed at audiences with impaired hearing and vision, presented a total of 29 films in free-admission screenings at the Ulucanlar Prison Cinema and the ankaya Municipality Contemporary Arts Center All films in the festival were screened with audio-description for audiences with impaired vision and with sign language and detailed subtitles for audiences with impaired hearing.
