Spanish language and literature to be celebrated in Turkish capitalAnkara will be home to a celebration of the Spanish language on Saturday, marking the first time the Turkish capital is hosting this event.Jointly organized by the embassies of Spanish-speaking countries in Ankara, the celebration will take place at ankaya Municipality’s Contemporary Arts Center in the KavaklIdere neighborhood from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m.Colombian Ambassador Fernando Panesso Serna will launch the program of events, which encompasses an exhibition about the Spanish language as well as film screenings, the Spanish Embassy in Ankara announced in a press release this week. The program will also pay tribute to four late, great authors of the Spanish language on the occasion of their centennials: Mexican poet Octavio Paz, Argentine writers Julio Cortázar and Adolfo Bioy Casares, and Chilean poet Nicanor Parra.Gabriel García Márquez, the Nobel Prize-winning Colombian novelist and short story writer who died on April 17 at the age of 87, will also be commemorated during the program, the embassy statement added.
