TODAY’S – Galatasaray hosts Fener in TKBL title decider

Galatasaray hosts Fener in TKBL title deciderGalatasaray Odeabank and Fenerbahe are pitted against each other in the grand final of the women’s Turkish Basketball League (TKBL) at Galatasaray’s Abdi Ipeki Arena on Monday after Fenerbahe leveled the series 2-2 with a home win over its archrivals on Friday. Galatasaray had a strong start going into the title playoffs and used its home aantage to gain a 2-0 lead in the first two games. Fenerbahe did not give up hope, however, and routed its opponents 81-61 in game three at home. On Friday, the two sides met at Fenerbahe’s ulker Sports Arena again and the hosts came from behind to cruise to a 71-65 win. Game five will be a contest between the two star-studded squads. Euroleague Final Eight most valuable player (MVP) Alba Torrens and other stars including Sancho Lyttle, IIIl Alben and Shavonte Zellous have the potential to determine the outcome in favor of Galatasaray. Fenerbahe US forward Angel MCoughtry led her side to an impressive comeback in the series and might cause trouble for Galatasaray on Monday. Coach Roberto Iniguez will rely on Birsel VardarlI, Cappie Pondexter and Ivana Matovic as well. Galatasaray wants to use its home court aantage while Fenerbahe aims to overcome its away phobia at Abdi Ipeki with both teams aspiring to clinch the coveted domestic title. Coach Ekrem Memnun’s game plan has won against Fenerbahe in this season’s finals and in their encounters at Abdi Ipeki. The most impressive victory came in Russia in the final of the coveted Euroleague Women in mid-April. Memnun’s side has won five of the last seven derbies. Therefore the odds favor Galatasaray in Monday’s title determiner. Galatasaray hopes to clinch the domestic title after 14 years. Following the game four loss at ulker Sports Arena, Memnun said his team had played well and smart for most of the game. He admitted that the atmosphere at Fenerbahe’s home had negatively affected his players. “I’m pleased with the resistance of my players. We’ll play the final game in front of our audiences against a team we have defeated five times this year [season],” Memnun noted, adding, “We’ll turn it [the arena] into a festival venue by winning the championship trophy we’ve long been waiting for.” Fenerbahe is seeking its ninth successive championship on Monday in the Galatasaray match. Coach Iniguez said in remarks to his club’s official television channel that they deserved to play a final game in the playoffs. “We’ll put up a fight till the end,” he said. “No one should doubt it.”
