TODAY’S – Economy minister against disclosing sources of funds

Economy minister against disclosing sources of fundsEconomy Minister Nihat Zeybeki told Turkish media outlets on Friday that he is wary of reintroducing policies that would require investors to disclose their funding sources.“Of course, illicit activities should be prevented and there should be transparency, but a new ‘where did it come from?’ regulation is what I’m afraid of,” said Zeybeki, referring to rumors of a new legislation package concerning company auditing, donations and grants and the prevention of unrecorded economic activities.Shortly after the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party)ame to power in 2002, it reversed a law that held depositors and investors accountable to answering questions regarding the sources of their funds.Referring to how the recent local and upcoming presidential elections would impact the economy, Zeybeki said, “We got through the Dec. 17 crisis what could be worse than this?”
