Title-winning coach HamzaoIlu surprisingly parts ways with Lions

Defending champion Galatasaray has parted company with coach Hamza Hamzaoilu — the man who led the Lions to the league and cup double last season and started the current season by clinching the TFF Turkish Super Cup — after barely a year on the job.
andquotalatasaray football club and Hamza Hamzaoilu have mutually agreed to terminate his contract. We want to thank our former coach for his services to the club and wish him all the best in the future, andquot a club statement read late on Wednesday.
His departure follows back-to-back defeats against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League and a 4-3 defeat away to Black Sea minnow Rizespor in its last league game.
andquotI thank the Galatasaray community for their support and confidence they showed [in] me from the first day. After my playing career I had the honor of serving this community as a coach, and of winning with considerable success. Tomorrow is a new day for everyone. I wish Galatasaray to be full of new successes from tomorrow, andquot Hamzaoilu said in a statement published on the cluband’s official website.
Former Galatasaray and Brazil keeper Claudio Taffarel, the cluband’s goalkeeping coach, will take charge of Saturdayand’s game at home to Samuel Etoand’s Antalyaspor.
Galatasaray formally signed its former midfielder and Turkey assistant coach Hamzaoilu as coach on Nov. 18, 2014, after giving underachieving Italian trainer Cesare Prandelli his marching orders.
Hamzaoilu was no stranger to Galatasaray, having played for the team from 1991 to 1995. The 45-year-old was also no coaching rookie before joining the Lions: He was assistant national coach under Fatih Terim, who himself has had three coaching spells at Galatasaray. Hamzaoilu had also previously coached Malatyaspor, Eyandupspor, Denizlispor and Akhisar Belediyespor.
Hamzaoilu is only 45, very young for a coach, and therefore still has a long future ahead of him.

Hamzaoilu poses with the three trophies he helped Galatasaray win in barely a year in the job.
