Tehran hosts official reception on occasion of 28 May – Republic Day

Baku: The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran has organized an official reception on the occasion of 28 May – Republic Day.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s press service told APA that Iran’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Chairman of Azerbaijan-Iran Intergovernmental Commission Mahmoud Vaezi, Chairman of the Iran-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group Ramazanali Sobhanifar, members of the Iranian parliament and foreign policy office, heads of diplomatic corps and international organizations, representatives of research centers in Tehran, businessmen, Azerbaijani and foreign students attended the official reception.

Ambassador Javanshir Akhundov informed the event attendants about 28 May – Republic Day. He said that Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR) founded on 28 May 1918 was the first democratic and constitutional republic in the Muslim East. He noted that though it lasted 23 months, ADR formed its armed forces, established democratic human rights and freedoms and achieved in other fields. Akhundov emphasized that Azerbaijan attaches special importance to the relations with Iran which is close to it from religious, cultural, historical and geographical points of view.

Vaezi congratulated friendly and brotherly Azerbaijani people on the occasion of 28 May – Republic Day and noted that Iran attaches great importance to development of the bilateral relations with Azerbaijan.

In the event, a film about Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural monuments, traditions, cultural heritage was screened and young Azerbaijani singers sang Azerbaijani mughams and folk songs.
