Taxi driver killed, 5 injured in Silvan, under week-long curfew

A taxi driver was killed and five others were injured on Monday during ongoing clashes between the terrorist Kurdistan Workersand’ Party (PKK) and Turkish security forces in the tense Silvan district of Diyarbakir province, where a curfew has been in place since Nov. 2.
The curfew that was imposed in Silvan has been in place for a week as of Monday. A curfew is in effect in three tense neighborhoods in the district: Mescit, Tekel and Konak.
The taxi driver, Mehmet Gandundanduz, was killed and five others were injured during clashes that took place on Monday. Pro-Kurdish Peoplesand’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputies Feleknas Uca and andcailar Demirer went to Silvan to a conduct a first-hand inspection of the scene.
Prior to Mondayand’s violence, four civilians and a police officer had been killed in fighting between security forces and members of the Patriotic Revolutionist Youth Movement (YDG-H), an affiliate of the terrorist PKK since the start of the curfew. Residents in the district are suffering from a lack of food and water because of the days-long curfew and continuing violence.
The HDP Istanbul branch office staged a protest in Taksim Square in Istanbul on Sunday evening to protest the week-long curfew in Silvan. Many in the crowd gathered at the square held banners with phrases such as and”The people in Silvan are not alone.and” The police took strict security measures around the square. Some members of another pro-Kurdish party, the Peoplesand’ Democratic Congress (HDK), also attended the protest.
Speaking to the crowd, HDP Co-chair Sebahat Tuncel said that they had gathered in Taksim to draw attention to the human rights violations taking place in Silvan, adding that they were there to say and”noand” to the governmentand’s violent policies.
h2PKK rocket hits hospital in Cizreh2 Another tense southeastern district is Cizre in iirnak province. A rocket launched by PKK terrorists hit the dialysis center and the morgue of Cizre State Hospital when the terrorists attempted to attack a nearby police vehicle. The police have launched a major search operation to capture the PKK terrorists, who fled the scene immediately.
Clashes between PKK terrorists and security forces are still ongoing in the district.
Also, five suspected members of the terrorist YDG-H who were detained as part of an operation conducted in the Ceylanpinar district of ianliurfa province on Nov. 6 were arrested by a court on Tuesday. The suspects are charged with membership in a terrorist organization.
Seven others suspected members of the YDG-H were also detained in the Viraniehir district of ianliurfa on Monday.
Ever since a suicide bombing in the Suruandc district of ianliurfa killed 33 activists and injured 100 more on July 20, clashes involving the PKK have grown in number. Two police officers were executed by PKK members on July 22 in retaliation for the Turkish authoritiesand’ perceived failure to prevent the Suruandc attack. The violence and PKK-led attacks further escalated when Turkey carried out air strikes on PKK bases in neighboring northern Iraq.
The violence has effectively shelved a settlement process with the PKK that began in late 2012 and the accompanying cease-fire. More than 150 members of the security forces have been killed in the conflict with the PKK or in attacks committed by the terrorist group since violence resumed in late July.
