Syrian Turkmens under heavy bombardment near Turkish border

Airstrikes continue to be conducted against against Bayir-Bucak Turkmens who live close to Turkey’s Yayladag border gate on Friday. Turkmens continue to resist heavy bombing.

The airstrikes conducted by Syrian army began at around 6:00 a.m. The bombing was heard in Yayladagi district of Turkish province of Hatay. The Syrian regime forces started a ground military operation close to villages in the Gimam area where there are about 50 Turkmen villages this past week and Russia has supported the Assad forces by pounding the area. Turkmens are an ethnically Turkic group living mostly in Syria and Iraq, along with Arabs and Kurds.

Press members are working under hard conditions to cover the incident from upper parts of Yayladagi. The bombardment has been ongoing incessantly since downing of Russian plane on Tuesday. The Prime Ministry’s Disaster and Emergency Management Directorate (AFAD) and The Turkish Red Crescent (Kizilay) continue preparations when Turkmens come to Turkish soil.
