Students protest Council of Higher Board

A group of students from İstanbul University protested Board of Higher Education (YOK) on Friday.

Stating that YOK was founded with the aim of applying partisan practices of government’s policies, students said government did not remove YOK also it gained its control. Students encountered the rigid police intervention during the protest. Students held a press release in front of the campus with furling banners written ‘Youth will not crumble, Palace (referring to presidency palace in Ankara) and YOK will crumble’

It was also stated that universities were stopped being science centers and it was made the rant centers of the capitalism by Palace and YOK. Also the group, “While the partisan academicians and the education policies, with no scientific qualifications, imposing on us, we want to object to it but we encounter police and the special security of universities who apply the orders of YOK and Palace,” said in the statement.

Following the statements, students turned back to their faculties.
