Pier Paolo Pasolini to be remembered at Pera Museum

The Pera Museum in Istanbul is paying tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini, one of Italyand’s most prominent figures in cinema who was also a playwright, painter and critic, in a film program that opens this week in its auditorium.
The Nov. 4-22 program, a joint effort between the museum and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Italian Cultural Institute in Istanbul, remembers Pasolini (1922-1975) on the 40th anniversary of his death through an 11-film selection that will be offered in free admission screenings.
Nine feature films and cinandeacutema vandeacuteritandeacute-style cinematic narratives Pasolini made during the 1960s and in 1970 will be shown as part of the program, including his first film, and”Accattoneand” (1961), a tale of street crime.
and”Il Vangelo secondo Matteoand” (The Gospel According to St. Matthew) from 1964 and his comic fable and”Uccellacci e uccelliniand” (The Hawks and the Sparrows), starring the beloved comedian Toto as an Italian everyman, will also be offered.
The program also includes and”La commare seccaand” (The Grim Reaper), written and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, based on a story by Pasolini, and and”Prophecy: Pasoliniand’s Africa,and” a 2013 production co-directed by Gianni Borgna and Enrico Menduni, about Pasoliniand’s love for Africa through a look at his poetry and cinema.
