People flock to shops before curfew imposed in southeastern Turkey

A curfew was imposed in two neighborhoods of the Cizre, district of the southeastern province of Sirnak as of 9 p.m. on Saturday due to an increase in terrorism activity in the district.

A statement released by the Sirnak Governor’s Office late on Saturday said a curfew would be imposed in the Sur and Yafes neighborhoods to ensure security in the wake of an increasing number of incidents of terrorism in the district and to aid in the capture of members of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) who were involved in violent acts. The statement said the curfew would be in place as of 9 p.m. on Saturday until a further notice.

People rushed to markets and bakeries to meet their needs during the curfew. Long queues formed in front of shops and bakeries in many neighborhoods as people think same regulation may be imposed in their neighborhoods in coming days. Some people living in Sur and Yafes moved to their relatives living in other neighborhoods.
