Order of arrest was given by Erdogan 6 months ago on TRT Haber, CHP’s Yarkadas

Republican People’s Party (CHP) İstanbul deputy Baris Yarkadas said that the order of arrest of the editor-in-chief of Cumhuriyet daily Can Dundar and the paper’s Ankara representative Erdem Gul was given by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a TV programme, on channel TRT Haber six months ago on Friday.

Baris Yarkadas and actor Tarik Akan arrived at the building of paper, located in the district of Sisli to support.

Stating that there has not been a fair judgement, Yarkadas said that this was a law tragedy.

Giving explanations to the journalists, Yarkadas, “The two respected journalists of Turkey were arrested and sent to jail after a 12-hour of claptrap. I was with them whole day on yesterday. We all witnessed that what kind of a bogus was held in court. Our friends were arrested by the order. Actually, this judgement was not declared on yesterday, it was determined in an interview on TRT Haber six months ago. Tayyip Erdogan had said ‘I will not leave unpunished of them,’ by referring Can Dundar and Erdem Gul. So the situation is so clear that how this judgement was made,” said in his statement.

Stating that there has not been a fair judgement, Yarkadas said that the claim was filed against Dundar and Gul after five and half months from the concerning news. Yarkadas, “According to the press law, the period of filing the claims for those kind of investigations are four months. Prosecutors did not condescend to obey this rule. So the investigation, launched against our friends Dundar and Gul, is unlawful. It has no validity,” also added in his statement.
