The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will visit Azerbaijan’s Kalbajar and Lachin regions occupied by Armenia. Jacques Faure (France), James Warlick (U.S.) and Igor Popov (Russia) will start their visit to region on May 16.

The U.S. co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, James Warlick wrote about this on his Twitter page on May 15. The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will pay a visit to the region with a fact-finding mission next week.

The Minsk Group, the activities of which have become known as the Minsk Process, spearheads the OSCE’s efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict emerged in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Since a lengthy war in the early 1990s that displaced over one million Azerbaijanis, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions.

The UN Security Council’s four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal have not been enforced to this day.
