Meeting of PACE Standing Committee kicks off in Baku

Baku: The meeting of the PACE Standing Committee has today kicked off at the Azerbaijani Parliament.

APA reports that PACE President Anne Brasseur has declared the meeting open.

She congratulated Azerbaijan on taking over the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and noted that this chairmanship fell on a difficult period.

PACE President explained it with the situation in Ukraine and stressed the importance of the territorial integrity of member states.

PACE President Anne Brasseur, Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ogtay Asadov, Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, delegations of the member states and other guests are attending the meeting.

The meeting of PACE Standing Committee is being held within Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

The issues on fight against AIDS among migrants and refugees, rights of migrant children, improvement of the cooperation on equality and non-discrimination among National Human Rights Institutions and parliaments will be discussed at the meeting.
