May Day marchers released in Turkey

ISTANBUL (CIHAN)- Around 173 people that were previously detained in Turkey’s Istanbul city, due to participation in the May Day Celebrations, have been released.

In total, about 211 people were detained in Turkey due to participation in the marches.

Some 90 people, including 13 policemen suffered as a result of the clashes between the police and the May Day marchers in the country.
elebrating May Day in Turkey – International Workers’ Day – was banned throughout 32 years.

The country’s ruling Justice and Development Party lifted the ban on holding May Day marches in April 2004.
The marches have recently been held in some Turkish cities.
