Mass brawl breaks out between Georgians and Azerbaijanis in Gardabani

Baku: A mass brawl has erupted between Georgians and Azerbaijanis in Gardabani district, Georgia.

The incident happened at night, APA reports quoting the Georgian media.

Ramin Bayramov, a member of the local department of Mikheil Saakashvili’s National Movement party, says the party’s 4 young activists have been assaulted.

The ruling coalition members have first beaten them on the street and then in a tea-house. Young Azerbaijani activists of the opposition party eventually called police. However, the clash grew even more, with up to 200 persons overall.

The police arrived at the scene and open fire into the air, partially taking control.

Representatives of the National Movement and Georgian Coalition parties say the mass brawl between young people hasn’t stemmed from an ethnic cause. They related it to the municipal elections to be held on June 15.
