Man shoots self after quarrel with police at presidential mansion in Istanbul

A man on Monday insisted on entering the presidential Huber Mansion in Istanbul, argued with police officers at the entrance and then attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head, the presidentand’s office has said.
According to news agencies, the incident took place at around 1.p.m. on Monday at the entrance of the presidential palace in Istanbuland’s Tarabya neighborhood. Initial reports said an unidentified man sustained gunshot wounds after ignoring warnings by police to stop approaching the presidential mansion.

The Office of the President said in a statement that a 20-year-old man insisted on entering the residence and argued with police officers at the guest entrance of the mansion.
The young man reportedly grabbed the gun of an officer, shot at other policemen and then attempted suicide by shooting himself in the head. The man, who is in critical condition, was taken to Maslak Acibadem Hospital by ambulance. He reportedly has a criminal record and suffers from mental illness.
After the incident police took security precautions around the area and closed the road to traffic.
The presidentand’s office stated that an investigation was launched into the incident. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was not at the mansion at the time.
