Malatya unrolls 6th film festival with ‘black carpet’ gala

Turkeyand’s Malatya welcomed the sixth edition of its annual international film festival on Friday night with a black carpet gala, honoring the countryand’s losses in the recent terrorist attacks, news agencies reported on Saturday.
The ceremony kicked off seven days of cinema from both Turkey and abroad in the eastern city.
Georgian film director Eldar Shengelaia, one of the guests of honor for the 2015 festival, veteran film historian and writer Agah andOzganduandc, stage and screen makeup artist Suzan Kardei, actress Perihan Savai and actor Serdar GandOkhan received the festivaland’s special honors during the ceremony, the Cihan news agency reported.
There are 14 titles in this yearand’s national feature film competition, including and”Ablukaand” (Frenzy) directed by Emin Alper, and”Sarmaiikand” (Ivy) by Tolga Karaandcelik, and”Kar Korsanlariand” (Snow Pirates) by Faruk Hacihafizoilu, and”Nefesim Kesilene Kadarand” (Until I Lose My Breath) by Emine Emel Balci, and”Misafirand” (The Visitor) by Mehmet Eryilmaz, and and”Sakliand” (Secret) by Selim Evci. The competitionand’s best film award comes with TL 75,000 in prize money.
Another 10 films are vying for the $12,000 best picture award in the festivaland’s international feature competition, including Laszlo Nemesand’ and”Son of Saul,and” Alfonso Gomez-Rejonand’s and”Me and Earl and the Dying Girland” and Corneliu Porumboiuand’s latest, and”The Treasure.and”
A retrospective of Turkish auteur Nuri Bilge Ceylanand’s films, and a seven-piece selection that focuses on Romanian New Wave cinema, are among the festivaland’s highlights.
The 6th Malatya International Film Festival will continue until Nov. 12.
