Kurdish intellectual’s life to hit theater stage in Denmark

and”Araf, iki andulke Arasindaand” (Purgatory, Between Two Countries), a play about the life of slain Kurdish intellectual Musa Anter, is headed to Denmark this week for a performance in Copenhagen on Nov. 6.
The monodrama, in Kurdish and Turkish, is a production by Avesta, an Istanbul-based independent theater company that stages Kurdish renditions of world classics and also features the work of current playwrights.
Avesta founder Aydin Orak portrays Anter in and”Araf,and” which he also directs.
The play, which is now in its seventh season, recounts important milestones in the life of Anter, who was shot dead on Sept. 20, 1992, in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir. Video and sound clips featuring Anter are also utilized in the biographical play, written by Cihan ian.
Fridayand’s Copenhagen performance will be staged at Ishandoslashj Kultur Cafandeacute. The performance is in Kurdish and Turkish with subtitles in Danish.
