Interest in new zgur Bugun, zgur Millet dailies surges

Recep Aktai, the general manager of Can Erzincan TV and Kanal 24, told the Cihan news agency on Sunday that he has been receiving threats for offering Bugandun TV and Kanaltandurk employees to continue broadcasting on his TV channels.
Speaking to Cihan, Aktai added that it constitutes a crime for police officers to forcibly enter the Bugandun TV and Kanaltandurk building and take the two stations off air.
and”I felt offended to see the police raid [on the ipek Media Group]. I regarded the [unlawful] actions taken against them [Bugandun TV and Kanaltandurk] as if they were taken against me and we [at Can Erzincan TV and Kanal 24] announced our support for our friends. andlsquoIf [police officers] take your microphones away from you, come and continue broadcasting here immediately. We will support you as long as we can, and’ we told them, and” Aktai explained.
Addressing the mainstream TV stations that have been silent over the forceful seizure of Bugandun TV and Kanaltandurk, Aktai said: and”If you [let yourself] feel frightened now, you will be paving the way for bigger disasters. A free media cannot be ensured by merely talking about it one should hold his head high and support the wronged.and”
After a request from Prosecutor Musa Yanducel, Judge Yunus Sanduer of the Ankara 5th Criminal Court of Peace ruled on Oct. 26 for the takeover of the administration of the holdingand’s 22 companies, which include two television stations, two newspapers and one radio station whose editorial position is critical of the government.
On Oct. 28, police officers forcibly entered the building that houses Bugandun TV and Kanaltandurk, the media groupand’s two flagship stations that have long been a main platform for opposition politicians, and took them off air. The move followed the government-led decision made two days earlier to seize Koza ipek Holding and appoint partisan trustees to take over the management of its companies.
Some commenters have speculated that the government-backed move was designed to ensure that the pro-Justice and Development Party (AK Party) trustees who were appointed to run the channels could control what Bugandun TV and Kanaltandurk broadcast.
Before police entered the building, a number of opposition party representatives and other media groups arrived to criticize the takeover and show their solidarity with journalists from Kanaltandurk and Bugandun TV. A live broadcast by Bugandun TV showed violent altercations between protesters attempting to stop the authorities from entering and police who used water cannons to disperse the crowd. After dispersing the group, police entered the building by using bolt cutters to remove the chains on the gate of the building.
A number of people, including journalists, were detained by the police, with several punched and kicked. Two reporters were hospitalized by the police brutality, one with severe injuries to his internal organs and the other with a broken leg.
