IDA conducts humanitarian aid campaign in Pakistan

Baku: The Azerbaijan International Development Agency (AIDA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has conducted humanitarian aid campaign in Sarqodha and Hafizabad districts of Pakistan’s Punjab province, the Pakistani Embassy in Azerbaijan told APA.

The event in Takht Hazara village was attended by Abid Vahid Sheikh, Managing Director of Bait-ul-Mal under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Pakistan Dashgin Shikarov, region and village elders, provincial media representatives and disaster victims.

Making a speech at the event, Managing Director of Bait-ul-Mal Abid Vahid Sheikh expressed his gratitude to the Azerbaijani government, people and AIDA for the humanitarian aid to disaster victims. He said on October 23, 2014 AIDA launched humanitarian aid campaigns to the people affected by floods and torrential rains in the Punjab’s Multan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Chiniot, Narowal, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Jhang districts as well as Muzaffarabad, the capital of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Bagh district. Giving information about the activities of Bait-ul-Mal, Abid Vahid Sheikh mentioned that Azerbaijan has been closely cooperating with the organization since 2012.

In his speech, Ambassador Dashgin Shikarov spoke about the high-level relations between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

He informed about the activities of AIDA, stressing that the agency has carried out a number of projects and humanitarian aid campaigns in more than 30 countries of Latin America, Africa and Asia.

Dashgin Shikarov also added that AIDA and Heydar Aliyev Foundation have jointly carried out water supply project in Dera Ismail Khan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in May of this year and tens of thousands of people have been provided with drinking water.

Speaking on behalf of disaster victims, elder of the district Shahnavaz Raja spoke about the consequences of the natural disaster and extended sincere gratitude to the Azerbaijani people and government for sharing the sorrow of the people being in hard financial and moral situation.

At the end of the event, on behalf of AIDA, the guests who attended the event handed out the food packages to the disaster victims.
