HDP delegation to ImralI: Kurdish settlement process should be resumed

The pro-Kurdish Peoplesand’ Democratic Party (HDP) delegation, which is one of the interlocutors of the government in the Kurdish settlement process, has called on the government to resume the process in order to seek a solution to the countryand’s Kurdish problem.
The HDP delegation, composed of HDP Deputy Chairman idris Baluken, HDP parliamentary group deputy chairwoman Pervin Buldan and HDP deputy Sirri Sandureyya andOnder, who used to travel to imrali Island to meet with Abdullah andOcalan, the imprisoned leader of the terrorist Kurdistan Workersand’ Party (PKK), made a joint statement in Parliament on Tuesday.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, andOnder said the settlement process, which started in 2012 between the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government and andOcalan along with other Kurdish elements — with the aim of granting more social and cultural rights to the countryand’s Kurds equal to other groups — has derailed over the last seven months but the process should be revived as soon as possible and even broadened with the involvement of more actors in the negotiations.
In his remarks, andOnder stated that the undertaking of the process is even more important than launching an initiative for creating a new constitution.
Regarding the ongoing conflict in the Southeast, andOnder argued that no red line of the government is left beside the demands of the countryand’s Kurds, adding, andquotThe AKP [AK Party] is continuing its efforts to label the PYD [Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party] a terrorist organization in spite of the andlsquoEime spiritand’.andquot
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), a Syrian Kurdish group with close links to the PKK, cooperated over the relocation of the tomb of Sanduleyman iah, whose site in Syria is recognized as Turkish territory, this February. This cooperation was defined as the andquotEime spiritandquot by andOcalan.
andquotThe Dolmabahandce consensus and andOcalanand’s persistent efforts to establish national peace still exist, andquot andOnder added.
In February, several senior figures from the AK Party government and the HDP agreed on a consensus at Dolmabahandce Palace as part of efforts to solve the Kurdish problem. The items of the consensus, which included a series of planned steps to resolve the Kurdish issue, were read out to the public by HDP deputy andOnder on Feb. 28, 2014. However, Erdogan later changed his stance towards the consensus by saying that he will never accept it.
andquotThe delegation wants to warn the AK Party government, which seems to be in a state of arrogance of power once again, that persisting on such a stance will result in chaos and further conflicts, blood and tears. andOcalan is the key for the establishment of national peace. Our recent history has proved that further oppression by the state will give rise to more resistance against the state and the peopleand’s resistance, as history has shown, is doomed to fail. A state which prefers to clash with its citizens cannot be democratic or give direction to the countryand’s future, andquot andOnder noted.
He added that after the settlement process is completed successfully, the process of creating a new constitution could be initiated.
