HDK: Disastrous for peace if settlement process not back on track

Pro-Kurdish Peoplesand’ Democratic Congress (HDK)o-spokesperson Sabahat Tuncel has said social conflict will increase if the parties of the Kurdish settlement process do not bring it back on track, which may be disastrous for peace.
In a joint press conference held at Galatasaray Square in Istanbul on Monday along with members of the pro-Kurdish Peoplesand’ Democratic Party (HDP), Tuncel said the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government no longer considers the HDP and imprisoned Kurdistan Workersand’ Party (PKK) leader Abdullah andOcalan as players in the settlement process.
The settlement process was launched in 2012 and included negotiations at Dolmabahandce Palace between the AK Party government and HDP deputies representing andOcalan in order to solve the problems of the Kurdish people in Turkey.
The outcome of those negotiations, also known as the Dolmabahandce consensus, included a series of planned steps to resolve the issue and was read out to the public by HDP deputy Sirri Sandureyya andOnder on Feb. 28, 2014.
However, Erdogan surprised many by disavowing the meetings as though they were not held during his term in the office. and”I will never accept the term andlsquoDolmabahandce consensus.and’ There can be no consensus with those who rely on the separatist terrorist organization [the PKK],and” Erdogan told reporters after Eid al-Fitr prayers in Istanbul in July, insisting that any consensus that will affect the future of the country should come from within Parliament.
Erdogan, in a statement in July, declared that the settlement process had been and”frozenand” because of the outbreak of violence across Turkey after PKK terrorists killed two police officers in ianliurfa province in July 21.
Tuncel said the HDP is the representative of Kurds in Parliament and andOcalan is the main authorized person in the settlement process. and”Therefore, searching other parties [in place of andOcalan and the HDP] will bring Turkey on the brink of clashes, and” she said. She also underlined that Kurds, supported by the HDP, the HDK and the people of Kurdistan, will continue to fight for their future.
Meanwhile, HDP Mardin deputy Mithat Sancar said in Parliament on Monday it is impossible to imagine a settlement process that alienates the HDP and Kurdish politics. and”We cannot reach anywhere with war scenarios and games, and” Sancar said.
