Governor’s office rejects Kimse Yok Mu’s application for aid campaign

Meral Akiener, a former Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy who was kept off the partyand’s candidate list in the last general election, will announce her candidacy for the partyand’s top position next week, a former MHP deputy has claimed.
and”Akiener will be a candidate for party chair. There is no doubt about it,and” Nevzat Korkmaz was quoted as saying by the Habertandurk news portal early on Wednesday.
According to the report, Korkmaz is in touch with Akiener and regularly exchanges views on the issue with her. Korkmaz indicated an announcement should be expected next week, saying it will be made in good time, the report said.
The MHP suffered a major defeat in the Nov. 1 general election, in which the number of its deputies fell to 40, down from 80 in the general election just five months earlier.
The dissidents in the party need to collect signatures from 245 party delegates for an extraordinary congress to be held in which candidates can run for the partyand’s top post.
The MHP has 1,220 delegates, of whom 1,100 are elected while the rest are party officials who are naturally considered as delegates.
MHP leader Devlet Bahandceli reportedly challenged the dissidents in the party, saying last week the party would hold its congress in 2018.
According to a report in the Yeniandcai daily over the weekend, party delegates in many provinces may well offer their support for an extraordinary congress as they feel it is not possible for the party to come to power with Bahandceli as chairman.
According to the media, provincial heads of the party reportedly offered Bahandceli their support during a meeting at the party headquarters over the weekend.
The Internet Haber news portal said at the beginning of the week that Bahandceli had warned during a meeting with party officials that the party could even be handed over to trustees if an extraordinary congress is held.
MHP deputy Koray Aydin and former MHP deputy Sinan Oian together with Akiener are also expected to run for the post of party chair. According to some reports, they may also join forces against Bahandceli.
The dissidentsand’ top aim is reportedly amending a party bylaw as it does not allow, as per an amendment made in 2009, competition for the partyand’s top post to be held in a congress to be held at the moment.
None of the potential candidates have so far announced their candidacy for party chair.
Mandusavat Derviioilu, a former izmir provincial head of the party, also confirmed on Facebook last week that Akiener would run for the top post, according to the Cumhuriyet daily.
Noting that he communicates with Akiener several times a day, the daily quoted Derviioilu on Friday as saying: and”There is no need for confusion. Akiener is a candidate [for the top post]. But whatand’s really important is to prepare the conditions in which a congress can be held.and”
In the previous parliamentary term, Akiener served as deputy parliament speaker as the MHP representative.
Oian, who was MHP Iidir deputy until the election in June, was dismissed from the party in late August but returned to the party following a court order that ruled his dismissal was not in line with the law.
