Georgia is strong with its Azerbaijanis – President Margvelashvili

Azerbaijanis are one of the founders of Georgia’s statehood, Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili said.

He made the remarks on Nov.6 at the meeting with the Azerbaijanis in the city of Marneuli.

“I’m very glad to meet the Azerbaijani citizens of Georgia together with Azerbaijani President Mr. Ilham Aliyev. We will further strengthen our friendship,” he said.

President Margvelashvili said that important projects are being implemented in areas densely populated by Azerbaijanis.

The president also noted that he is pleased with the fact that Azerbaijanis are studying the Georgian language.

“Azerbaijanis seek to integrate into the Georgian society. We need your talents, and we will always support you,” he added.

Margvelashvili said that Georgia is strong with its Azerbaijanis.

“Your learning the state language in Georgia means the development of your culture and mother tongue. As citizens of Georgia, you should not forget your culture, history and traditions,” he noted.

The president said agriculture and infrastructure in Azerbaijani-populated regions are gradually developing.

“Azerbaijanis now provide 9 percent of Georgia’s GDP. We need new opportunities to enter the European market. Georgia has the potential for it,” he added.

President Margvelashvili noted the importance of applying a new system meeting European standards in the agricultural field.

“It is important to develop economy and tourism in the region. New development prospects should be developed in Marneuli and other parts of the region. New projects should be carried out in the region. Transportation, energy and logistics projects are effective and profitable for Georgia,” he said.
