Famous ‘Ali Baba and 40 Thieves’ opera has its ‘thieves’ taken away

The word and”haramiand” — which translates into and”thiefand” — was left off the name of the famous opera usually known as and”Ali Baba ve 40 Haramilerand” [Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves], before being staged by the state operas in several Turkish provinces.
The move to exclude the word and”thiefand” from the operaand’s name comes a while after the August 2014 appointment of Selman Ada as general director of the Turkish State Opera and Ballet. The opera, which has been staged for 24 years by the state operas, was renamed and”Ali Baba 40.and”
The word and”thiefand” was frequently used by opposition parties against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following major corruption investigations that went public in December 2013.
Republican Peopleand’s Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kiliandcdaroilu played recordings allegedly featuring the voices of then-Prime Minister Erdogan and his son, Bilal, in a parliamentary group speech in 2014. and”I previously called the prime minister the and’prime thief.and’ I received criticism from some people. Today we understand that he [the prime minister] really is a prime thief. These voice recordings reveal the truth, and” he said after playing them. The tape recordings pertaining to major graft investigations were proven to be authentic by the Council of Forensic Medicine in November 2014.
The investigations were buried by the government with the dismissal of prosecutors and police officers overseeing the investigation. In a public speech in August, Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahandceli, referring to the implication of top officials in the graft probes, had said: and”There is a thief in Ankara, and the thief is in charge.and”
