Galatasaray hosts BeIiktaI, Efes faces KarIIyaka in TBL tiebreakersThe last two title winners, Galatasaray Liv Hospital and BeIiktaI Integral Forex, are set for a third meeting on Tuesday, with the winner taking all, while Anadolu Efes hosts PInar KarIIyaka in their tie-breaker on Monday. The winners will face semi-finalists Banvit and Fenerbahe ulker, respectively, in the semi-finals.Defending champions Galatasaray leveled the series after defeating BeIiktaI 66-64 in their second-leg thriller on the road on Saturday to reclaim the home court aantage. Coach Ergin Ataman said after the match it was one of the most nervous games of his career. “We weren’t supposed to be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs as the defending champions. This led to pressure on me and my players.” Ataman said his team had stopped the scorers of BeIiktaI with good defense.BeIiktaI coach Ahmet Kandemir said in his post-game remarks that they had failed to capitalize on the pressure on Galatasaray but will win game three on the road to make it to the semi-finals.One minute’s silence was observed before the game to commemorate those who died in a mine blast in the western district of Soma on Tuesday. Both teams were unable to score in the first minutes of Saturday’s game. American guard Doron Perkins’ last-second three pointer gave the hosts an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. BeIiktaI had a storming start to the second half and had a 16-10 edge in the 11th minute.Led by Carlos Arroyo, Galatasaray tied the game but BeIiktaI was up 31-30 into half-time. The guests edged BeIiktaI 51-50 in the third quarter before the thrilling fourth quarter. Neither side was able to get the aantage in most parts of the final quarter while the guests clinched the 66-64 victory after Ryan Broekhoff missed the layup in the final second. Pops Mensah-Bonsu tallied 17 points for the winners.The winner of the third game on Tuesday will clash with regular season’s leaders Banvit in the semi-finals.Elsewhere PInar KarIIyaka edged Anadolu Efes 65-64 in front of its home crowd to bring the series to 1-1 on Friday. The deceased Soma mine workers were commemorated before the game. The hosts led the first quarter 15-10 and were up 32-25 at half-time. Efes held the hosts to a 43-43 draw in the third quarter but KarIIyaka led 45-43 when the quarter ended. Efes claimed the upper hand in the fourth quarter but BarII Hersek gave the hosts the lead and KarIIyaka wrapped up the game 65-64.The semi-finalist will be determined on Monday in Istanbul. The winner of that match will face Fenerbahe ulker. Fenerbahe defeated UIak Sportif in both games of the quarterfinal playoffs to reach the semi-finals.
