Erdogan has surprise talks with speaker, MİT head as Davutoglu meeting expected Tuesday

Erdogan received Fidan first at the Ak Saray Presidential Palace at 6:30 p.m. and then met with Kahraman at 7:30 p.m.

The meetings were not included in Erdogan’s previously announced schedule.

The president who was expected to meet with Davutoglu on Monday evening as well; however, the meeting was postponed to Tuesday when the prime minister is expected to present the new government to Erdogan.

Erdogan earlier said he will be involved in the formation of the new Cabinet, in violation of the constitutional requirement of impartiality, as if to confirm that he will eventually act as head of a presidential system.

According to the Constitution, a president is required to be neutral in his relations with political parties.

Since being elected president by popular vote in August of last year, Erdogan has been heavily involved with the government in a bid to turn Turkey’s parliamentary democracy into a presidential system.
