Different opinions stated by Cypriot Turkish people about ECTHR’s fine on Turkey

LEFKOIA (CIHAN)- As the European Court of Human Rights (ECTHR) fined Turkey 90 million euros in compensation to Greek Cyprus for “human rights violations” resulting from Turkey’s military operation in Cyprus in 1974, both critical and welcoming comments came from Cypriot Turkish people.

Speaking to Cihan news agency, Hasan YIlmaz IIIk who is the head of Cyprus Human Rights Association said Turkey’s intervention was a legal action in Greek Cyprus. Order directed by the court is a political decision and ECTHR should have sought the fine for Greece not Turkey, underlined IIIk.

A citizen who asked not to be named told the decision was taken at a time when negotiations on Cyprus issue are in progress, which is quite interesting.
Meanwhile, some of the citizens said they found the decision proper in order Cyprus issue to be solved in a short time.
