Dense fog affects sea transportation in Dardanelles

The sea transportation was closed to ship and ferry services bidirectional due to the dense fog in Dardanelles (Canakkale Strait) on Friday.

Dense fog has been badly affecting the sea transportation since Thursday night. The officials of Vessel Traffic Service Directorate closed the services of transit ships from North to South bidirectional at 01:30 a.m.

As the effect of the fog weakened, they opened the services at 3:30 a.m. The officials closed services at 07:15 p.m. again. The transit ship services were opened to sailing at 7:50 p.m. As a result of the walkie-talkie reports by the captains of ships, sailing in Dardanelles, the services were closed at around 9:05 p.m. bidirectional again.

While dense fog increased its effect, ferryboat expeditions were stopped at 9:25 p.m. by the officials.
