Control of Kizildag hills regained by Turkmens

Turkmens living in the Bayirbucak area near Turkey’s Yayladagi border gate with Syria regained on Friday morning the control of Kizildag (red mountain), one of three strategic hills which had fallen into the hands of the Syrian army on Thursday. Seven Turkmens were killed and 12 others were injured in the clashes.

After an exchange of heavy gunfire between the Turkmen groups and the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad early on Friday, the Turkmens maintained the control of Kizildag by 6 a.m. Turkmen forces captured a tank and an anti-craft battery from the Syrian army.

Injured Turkmens were rushed to the Hatay State Hospital. Yamadi camp which was established in Syria for Turkmens was evacuated for security reasons.
