Construction begins in Bolu forest, despite lack of decision from Council of State

Road construction has already begun in a forested area in Bolu province that was recently zoned for construction, despite the fact that the Council of the State is still considering a legal objection to the deforestation of over 51,000 hectares.
In August, the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) government zoned 515 square kilometers of forest in Bolu for construction. The area, consisting of 51,450 hectares and located between the Kartalkaya Skiing Center and the Bolu-Karacasu Thermal Tourism Center, includes pine and fir forests as well as lakes and campsites and has been named the KandOroilu Mountains Culture and Tourism Protection and Development Area.
Last week, engineers and architects filed a case against the order that is currently being considered by the Council of State. However, construction has already begun in the area, even though the Council of State has not yet issued its ruling. The Birgandun daily reported on Sunday that old roads leading to villages are being widened and bridges over creeks are being renovated. The daily also said that due to the approaching winter, construction work has been progressing at a very quick pace.
